In order to control high blood pressure, you have to control your weight. This is based on statistics that almost 30 percent of people with high blood pressure can be cured by losing weight.

An additional fat will need blood capillaries measuring a length of about 5 miles longer, hence, requiring a greater force of blood pressure to effect proper blood circulation.

If overweight, the common cause of high blood pressure is the excess insulin produced by the pancreas. More insulin production will only mean that it will signal the kidneys to heighten the blood pressure.

Young people who are overweight will expect to have a shorter life expectancy because of risks to stroke, cancer, and heart disease. This can even be aggravated by drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking, thus, worsening the conditions of high blood pressure.

Losing weight is one natural way to prevent several diseases such as hypertension. Here then are some pointers to consider in losing weight effectively and healthily:

1. Exercise – This will burn more calories thereby eliminating that extra pound. To give an example, if you will burn 300 calories a day, one pound will be lost every 12 days. If you double the burned calories by making it 600 per day, one pound will be reduced every week.

2. Diet – Dieting in order to lose weight requires a proven method to become effective. Some guidelines are as follows:

• Maintain a daily food diary of what was eaten during the day including the blood pressure reading.

• Eat plenty of low-calorie foods to minimize the cravings to eat more. Unlimited consumption includes fruits, salads, vegetables, grains, and cereals.

• Refrain from eating red meat. Better, eat skinned poultry and fish either broiled or barbecued.

• Consume single serving of plain baked potato, rice, pasta in plain tomato sauce and no butter or salt popcorn.

• Try to stay away from alcoholic beverages.

• As a guide, purchase a book that clearly defines the content of potassium, sodium, and calories.

• Use a guide in the number of weights gained or lost, like a fat bag. Put in the cloth bag a pound for every pound of weight lost and vice versa. Display this in conspicuous place and start a new bag after losing every 10 pounds.

• Intake around 3,000 mg of potassium daily.

3. Weight loss pills and herbs – This will artificially boost the metabolic rates via other stimulants and diet pills. Examples are amphetamines or “uppers” and ephedra herb.

Losing weight using pills and herbs is only temporary. The best way to lose weight is to manage the intake of calories and exercise.

Kidneys affect high blood pressure due to certain imbalances while in the process of cleansing our body of about 50 gallons of fluid daily. Any imbalance will cause the filtering units of the kidneys called nephrons, to exert more effort than what is normally required.

The nephrons will also reabsorb the filtered sodium and water and return them to the blood. If there is an excessive amount of sodium and volume of liquid that the kidneys failed to expel and flush out, it follows that there will also be an excessive amount of sodium and water to be re-absorbed by the nephrons back to our blood.

Excessive amount of sodium in the bloodstream will now cause an imbalance with the other minerals contained in blood cells. This then will trigger the onset of high blood pressure as there is now a disproportion between sodium and other minerals particularly potassium.

Under normal processes, the kidneys regulate the flow of fluid volume of the blood as well as limiting the sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium contents in the body system. These minerals affect the relaxation of arteriole muscles or small blood vessels branching from an artery.

The kidneys will remove the water, remaining wastes and excessive materials from the blood to be distributed again already purified against wastes, back into the bloodstream. The waste products and liquid that contain these minerals are excreted in the kidney by producing urine.

The body has two kidneys about the size of an adult fist. Even if the other kidney is impaired, the body can fully function with only one kidney to perform the process of filtering excessive sodium and chloride substances in the blood. However, the ability of a single kidney to function well on its own will depend on the dietary intakes that the body receives.

<b>What Causes Excessive Sodium in the Body</b>

The body reabsorbs sodium as sodium chloride or table salt to conserve energy. On the other hand, the reabsorption of sodium is not at all advantageous due to the processed foods we eat with high sodium chloride content.

Unlike processed foods, unprocessed foods are naturally balanced with little sodium and sodium chloride. Sodium can be found in a variety of food groups including citrus fruits and grains which are called citrate and glutamate, respectively.

The body reabsorbs around 99 percent of sodium thereby an active adult needs only a daily intake of 300 milligrams of sodium, or even less according to some experts. Hence, salt is no longer needed in the preparation of food since most food groups contain sodium.

<b>How Imbalances Affect the Kidney In Ways that Lead to High Blood Pressure</b>

Aside from sodium, hormonal systems can influence the function of the kidneys resulting to sodium reabsorption. Hormonal imbalance occurs, in the case of overweight persons who tend to produce excessive insulin. By a natural reaction, excessive insulin will cause sodium reabsorption in the cells which will cause a chain reaction of disporportion leading to the elevation of blood pressure.

Another example is when the adrenal glands produce aldosterone which triggers the kidneys to preserve sodium and chloride and expel potassium. Aldosterone enables the retention of sodium by the kidneys and sweat glands. Although produced by the adrenal glands, the kidneys regulate the hormone angiotensin and the enzyme renin.

Any failure of the kidney to regulate the production of the hormone angiotensin will cause a constriction of the arterioles. Constricted or closed arterioles will cause blood pressure to rise since they are at the receiving end of the blood circulation processes. The pressure that prods blood to surge forward will meet closed or constricted arterioles which causes a build-up leading to high blood pressure.

The kidneys release renin when you are under stress or when somebody attacks you. People with Type A personality produce excess renin which will bring high blood pressure. Other related excess renin can be pinpointed to lack of magnesium.

If aldosterone is caused by an illness, medical treatment is necessary. But when the sodium excretion of the kidneys is not a known factor called natriuretic factors, diets with low or high sodium will level their proportion. In totality, the kidneys affect high blood pressure due to sodium reabsorption, diet and hormonal influences.

Calcium and magnesium are both essential minerals that the body needs. They are two of the minerals contained in each of the body cells, hence calcium and magnesium can contribute to the occurrence of high blood pressure.

Calcium is needed in the integration of cell membrane. However, when taken in excess amounts, the muscle cells tend to tighten thereby constricting the arterioles and capillaries resulting to increase in blood pressure.

In similar manner, magnesium is required for muscle contractions and the proper level of potassium-sodium-calcium ratio of the body. Henceforth, imbalances in calcium and magnesium levels can trigger high blood pressure.

On a daily basis, the body needs at least 800 milligrams of calcium for healthier bones, muscles, teeth and nerve function, to name only a few uses. According to some health professionals, women require as much as 1,500 milligrams.

The 800 milligrams of calcium is equivalent to an oversized pill and scientifically described as a macromineral. This is contrary to magnesium where the average daily requirement is even smaller than the dot in the letter “i”.

Milk and dairy products are good sources of calcium accounting for 40 percent of our daily requirement. In order to complement the 800 milligrams of calcium, it is equivalent to a requirement of about three glasses of milk while the 1,500 milligrams is around five glasses, more or less.

Other acceptable sources of calcium are green vegetables like spinach and broccoli. However, cheese is considered as not acceptable because of its sodium content. The 800 milligrams is equivalent to eight stalks of broccoli and 25 ounces of spinach wherein you will have a hard time consuming. For that, Americans would rather resort to calcium supplements.

The cell membrane loses its integrity if there is no sufficient calcium level. Lack of calcium allows the absorption of sodium and release of potassium. If there will be excess sodium, it will excrete more calcium which will require an additional push in the pressure of blood, which in turn causes high blood pressure. All owing to the constriction of the arterioles and capillaries.

Just like calcium, magnesium is also scientifically described as a macromineral. The body needs around 400 milligrams on a daily basis. Sources of which are the well-loved meat, milk and vegetables. According to surveys, people get 50 percent of the daily requirement from these sources.

Magnesium causes the muscles to relax or become tense if proper member integration is not attained. Also, renin, a hormone which allows sodium absorption will emerge when magnesium is not sufficient, causing an imbalance which will elevate the blood pressure.

How much is the necessary dietary calcium and magnesium to prevent high blood pressure?

Actually, there is no dietary calcium and magnesium level in preventing high blood pressure. This is due to the proportional relationship of potassium, sodium and magnesium to one another, whereas magnesium is responsible for the absorption of calcium.

Calcium and magnesium supplements are readily available to fill in any gap. Checkout the orange juices that are fortified with calcium and potassium for sale in the market. All you have to do is read on the label of some products prepared by food technologies, as a ready reference for your calcium and magnesium needs.

High blood pressure is normally associated with heredity factors. Hereditary high blood pressure is common since almost all families have a family member or members who had history of this disease.

Opposed to this, a scientist named Lewis Dahl performed a research on laboratory animals linking genes as one of the causes of high blood pressure. However, the results proved that majority of the animals did not develop essential hypertension or common high blood pressure but 1 percent to 2 percent was associated with secondary hypertension.

Meaning, it was due to illness and the blood pressure will return to normal once the illness is treated. Hence, based on the study of Mr. Dahl, high blood pressure is not hereditary.

Providing a conclusion therefore that high blood pressure therefore is associated with the environment, with contributing factors such as food, lifestyle and stress. What we actually inherit are the eating habits, preferences, lifestyle and manner of handling stress which will be prevalent in the environment we grew up in. What we put into our body is what we are projecting, what we developed while living in a specific environment will explain why we put it in our body.

Similarly, it is wise to associate family member if your genes are prone to high blood pressure or there is hereditary blood pressure. Learn to know by doing a family tree beginning with the information about; age, relative with high blood pressure, weight, regular exercise habits, and the likes.

Sometimes proper communication with the afflicted family member is necessary to get a first-hand information of his food and lifestyle habits.Based on all information gathered, an analysis can be made.

Once the family tree is made, take note of the following data:

1. A consistent or repeating pattern on family members that was afflicted with the disease. Tracing can start from grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins all the way to the great-great origins. Segregating the men from the women with high blood pressure.

2. Overweight family members either lacking regular exercise or obesity will show up in the later years. Noting if those fitness buffs are affected by high blood pressure.

3. Lastly, if ever there are family members who are fond of alcoholic beverages, note if they have high blood pressure.

From the above, an analysis is feasible that hereditary high blood pressure will crop-up based on percentage of occurrences. There is no longer the need to experiment since one way or the other, your family member or even you will have high blood pressure. Therefore, proper dietary intake and lifestyle will now change for the better.

If a person then was brought up with the values of taking care of the body, then, it is also his body that will take care of him in the twilight years of his life.Hence, hereditary blood pressure can be compensated by teaching the next generation the gentle care of one’s body.

Medicines cannot cure high blood pressure but it can get rid of the symptoms and bring it back to normal level. This is also true with herbs especially high blood pressure which stems from Type A personality. If herbs can provide us with the same benefits, then we can do without the drug medications in order to avoid any side effects.

Here are some of the herbs that are known to reduce high blood pressure:

1. Ginseng – Acts as tranquilizer in the reduction of anxiety often linked to stress. The effect of ginseng is evident after two to three weeks of use. This was also used as a tonic drink for over 2,500 years ago, according to medical writings in Asia. Nonetheless, in spite of its track record there’s no medical basis to support this.

Aside from the ability to lower the blood pressure, ginseng has been found to improve the following:

a. More tolerance in reacting to light and sound.

b. More oxygen supply during exercise.

c. More positive results in work related activity.

d. Aerobic competence.

e. More agreeable personality and disposition with less display of temper.

Although ginseng is safe for human consumption, pregnant women should exercise care in its use by consulting their doctor.

2. Valerian – Similar to ginseng, it acts as a tranquilizer. This is often prescribed by doctors to relieve stress and anxiety. This has been in use for at least 1,000 years as found in the United States Pharmacopoeia. Unlike ginseng, valerian is supported by clinical studies but should be avoided by pregnant women.

3. Kava-kava – This is used in Polynesia to relax the muscle and treat anxiety. No records exist as to how long this has been in use. Nevertheless, this has clinical basis as convincingly effective.

The use of herbs in treating human disorders namely stress, anxiety or high blood pressure should be approached with caution. There is no specific test yet regarding the safety of its use for a long period of time.

In the treatment of high blood pressure whether herbs or medicines are used, the following should be avoided as they increase the blood pressure level:

1. Caffeine – Temporarily elevates the activity of the central nervous system, slightly increases the pulse and makes you feel wired.

2. Tobacco – This is considered a high-risk factor for people with cardiovascular disease (CVD). Hence, smoking with high blood pressure doubles the risk of heart attack and stroke.

3. Cocaine – Use of cocaine is similar to courting heart attack. It stimulates the central nervous system which can trigger high blood pressure.

As a conclusion, the use of herbs in treating high blood pressure should be taken with caution to avoid unknown side-effects. Also, discard the habit of caffeine, tobacco and cocaine for the early recovery and incurrence of complications. In this way, we can control our high blood pressure.

Two groups of people with high blood pressure were divided into groups and paired according to weight, height and family background with the same medication to maintain their blood pressure at 120/80. The objective was to monitor if there will be changes in the requirements of medications.

The first group was given a daily one-hour session of aerobic exercise. The second group was told to go on with their normal daily routine.

The study disclosed a 20 percent decline in medication at the end of the fourth week and 30 percent on the sixth week on the first group. Conversely, the second group increased the medication requirement by 5 percent on the sixth week.

This only confirms the effectiveness of exercise to lower blood pressure. A regular exercise done moderately develops cardiac output, lessen blood pressure and improves lean body mass.

This is supported by other studies including the Journal of the American Medical Association that blood pressure is reduced by about 9 percent under regular exercise for a period of six or more months.

Regular exercise means doing it five times a week at the least. In like manner, moderate exercise is a long and vigorous routine. An example of moderate exercise is walking from forty to fifty minutes or jogging from twenty to thirty minutes.

There are two types of exercises:

1. Aerobic exercise – Aerobic a nomenclature that literally means “with air”. This type of exercise requires the extended use of the cardiovascular system in moving the oxygen in the blood. Examples are daily walking, swimming and skiing from twenty minutes to one hour.

2. Anaerobic exercise – or “without air” does not necessarily mean that that you will not breathe while doing an exercise but only the usual breathing and not always. This work out increases the normal metabolism but will not exercise the heart and the arteries, albeit for a short period.

Examples are swimming under water and running a 100-yard dash. Although the two examples are vigorous in nature, they only use the energy-yielding materials of the body. It may sound strange but you can swim under water and run without breathing. Other examples are weight-lifting and running for the bus. This exercise temporarily raises blood pressure and should be avoided.

When to exercise?

This is still open to debate. Sociology suggests that it should be in the beginning of the day while it’s at the end of the day for physiology. Since exercise reduces stress and relaxes the mind, physiology is targeting the end of the day when stress is at its peak.

Similarly if you start in the morning, you are opening yourself to a positive outlook. The free hand is yours to choose, as long as you exercise to prevent high blood pressure.

As always, you are advised to consult your doctor before starting an exercise program. Do some stretching and start with a low form of exercise then gradually increase it.

In order to have a better understanding of what is high blood pressure, and how we can take appropriate actions to lower our high blood pressure, it is a must that we should first understand the properties of a normal blood pressure. To have a thorough knowledge of what high blood pressure is all about will lead us all to good health.

Our body is made up of tissues and organs coming from fifteen trillion cells with specific functions. The heart, skin, kidneys, lungs, and other glands are responsible for the blood pressure. Everything from the muscle and the vascular tissues, as well as the cardiovascular and excretory systems play an important role.

The heart will pump blood loaded with oxygen to the aorta, the largest artery. This will be distributed to the arterioles and capillaries or the smaller arteries, which will be allocated to every tissues and cells.

Blood pressure will now be influenced by the amount of blood pumped, the speed by which blood is pumped and any resistance that it may encounter during the pumping process. Simply stated, blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood the heart will pump out and any factors that may restrict this blood output to flow.

The bringing of blood to and from the muscles and the skin by the arterioles and veins is called peripheral circulatory system. This is the stage where the so called peripheral resistance will be met. There are three contributing factors for peripheral resistance to take place while blood is being distributed. These are:

1. Viscosity of the blood – by viscosity, it means the blood either flows easily or not. The higher the viscosity, the more resistance to flow takes place, since it would have a consistency similar to that of honey.

2. Elasticity of the arteries and veins – refers to the ability of the veins and the arteries to stretch. Hence, if the veins are rigid and hard or pipe-like, the more pressure is exerted to let the blood flow.

3. The number, size, and state of the arterioles – will refer to the ability of the arterioles to dilate as ready receptacles for the blood that flows. Hence, if only a few arterioles are relaxed and dilated, much of the blood will remain in the veins causing pressure, since no form of release can be met.

During the process of distribution, pressure is needed to push the blood to the arteries. One is the systolic or higher pressure responsible for pushing the blood and the other diastolic or lower pressure responsible in keeping the heart to pump out blood.

High blood pressure then takes place, if our dietary intakes, lifestyle, or genetic abilities may in one way cause the three contributing factors to assume the properties that will cause resistance to blood flow. Blood viscosity that may be thick like honey has to pass through veins and arterial wall that are rigid and pipe-like and will be met by only a few dilated arterioles, the rest being constricted, or worse, closed.

Thus, the lower pressure continues to promote pumping of blood while the higher blood pressure will keep pushing to find an outlet for its pressure. Not finding any, all the pressure will remain in confinement within veins and arterial walls and will be liable to pop out of any exit points just to find release.

Anyone who is experiencing this kind of peripheral circulation and resistance, is experiencing high blood pressure already leading to a stroke, or much worse, death. This is why hypertension or high blood pressure was given the moniker: “the silent killer”.

Normal blood pressure varies from every individual. What is high blood pressure to some may be still normal to others. By ordinary standards, the normal blood pressure of adults on the average is 120 systolic and 80 diastolic. This is usually stated as 120 over 80 in millimeters of mercury or 120/80 as expressed in fraction.

Why should you choose a hypertension natural cure over the medication that your doctor describes? There are numerous reasons and you should educate yourself before you choose your treatment or switch your treatment. Because your life could depend upon it?

Did you know that 1 in 3 American adults suffer from the silent killer of hypertension, also called high blood pressure? The unfortunate thing is that half of those people do not even know they suffer from the disease.

If you are diagnosed with the disease, you should consider why natural health has been revolutionizing what doctors think about hypertension treatment.

In some cases, a hypertension natural cure could be more effective and safer for the person and their health.

High Blood Pressure Medication Side Effects

You leave the doctor heading to the pharmacists to pick up your hypertension medication and the words, “Lose weight, cure your salt and exercise” echo in your head. Is this the only thing you can do for treating the silent killer? NO!

In most cases, doctors are not fully telling you how you can treat high blood pressure. They may tell you the basics but let’s face it, ‘who doesn’t know that eat healthy and exercising is good for you?’

Did they also forget to tell you high blood pressure medication side effects?

1. Diuretics- Diuretics rid the body of sodium and water. They work by making your kidneys excrete more sodium in the urine. The sodium will then take the water from your body. This is result in a decrease of fluid flowing through your blood vessels, which reduces the pressure on the walls of your arteries.

The problem is that diuretics suck precious nutrients right out of your body and can lead to other diseases and complications.

2. Beta Blockers- Beta blockers work by blocking the effects of the hormone epinephrine. The result is the heart beats more slowly thereby reducing blood pressure. Beta blockers also help the blood vessels relax and open to improve blood flow.

The problem is that beta blockers are addicting, cause asthma like symptoms, cause dangerously low good cholesterol and causes extreme fatigue.

3. Alpha Blockers- Alpha Blockers relax certain muscles and help small blood vessels to remain open. They release a hormone that stimulates the walls of smaller arteries and veins. The result is an increase in blood flow and a drop in blood pressure.

The problem is that alpha blockers will often cause a migraine and nausea. They also will cause extreme fatigue as well as weight gain (which will contribute to a greater risk of high blood pressure).

Choosing a High Blood Pressure Natural Remedy

We recommend you treat the disease and not the symptoms! Our High Blood Pressure Remedy Report cures hypertension by literally flushing the plaque out of the arteries.

A good hypertension natural cure treatment should always involve your diet, the vitamins you supplement, exercise and supplementing your mineral intake. Here are some hypertension tips to remember.

1.	Decrease your salt intake to less than 2,400 mg a day or possibly less.

2.	Try the DASH Diet.

3.	Supplement 3 important minerals: calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

4.	Make fiber a priority. Especially water-soluble fiber.

5.	Exercise for at least a half an hour a day. Release the endorphins and become addicted to exercise.

6.	Always choose water!

7.	Discover breathing exercises you can do at you work desk that increase blood flow.

8.	Supplement Apple Cider Vinegar!

Many individuals are put on medications to control their high blood pressure. Depending greatly on the severity of the blood pressure you might be able to discontinue using the medications with some modifications to your lifestyle and diet.

Many doctors will begin a medicinal treatment with mild medications for high blood pressure and sometimes it might be necessary to start off with a more vigorous medication and slowly work down to a mild one.

Understanding the different types of medications and how they actually treat and benefit the condition is important. Throughout this article you will learn the medications that are used for treating high blood pressure and gaining control over it. Generally, all of the medications that are currently being used for the successful treatment of high blood pressure fall into one of five categories.

The category or type of medication your doctor will put you on will greatly depend on a few factors. Among them are the level of high blood pressure you have, existing medical conditions, current medications you take as well as family medical history. Here are the categories:

* Vasodilators

* Diuretics

* Angiotensin II receptor blockers and ACE inhibitors

* Calcium channel blockers

* Beta-adrenergic blocking agents

Let’s start off by discussing the Vasodilators. These are designed to make the veins and the arteries wider, thus allow the blood to flow a bit more freely. In some circumstances a doctor might prefer to combine another medication with a Vasodilator to get your blood pressure to the ideal level and maintain it.

ACE Inhibitors is the next medication we will briefly discuss. These are among the most popular medications prescribed for treating and stabilizing blood pressure. These are designed to successfully relieve the stress of blood vessel contraction as well as regulate the blood flow and decrease the blood pressure. ACE inhibitors will then convert the hormone that is usually inactive into an active hormone.

The next medication is the Calcium Channel Blockers. These decrease the blood pressure because they relax the blood flow and the vessels themselves. The blood generally is able to flow with ease once the medication gets into the individuals system. The relaxation enhances the flow of the blood without stressing the heart.

Beta blockers or Beta-adrenergic blocking agents are often the first choice for many doctors in treating high blood pressure. Basically, this type of medication will minimize the stress on the heart by limiting the work that is needed to be done by the heart.

The number of beats the heart has to do to make sure the blood is pumping is lowered because the heart no longer has to work as hard. This also decreases the intensity of the heartbeats, thus combining all of this the blood pressure is often successfully modified and reduced to a healthy level.

Mild medications for high blood pressure will be determined generally on an individual patient basis. The prescribing doctor will take into consideration several other health related issues before prescribing the best medication for your blood pressure. Be sure you are giving as much information to your doctor as you can about your medical history and your family medical history.

High blood pressure is a growing problem among Americans in this day and age of fast food and upbeat lifestyles. It seems as if the only time we have in our increasing busy lives is to jump in the drive thru lane at the local fast food place.

The hardest part of lowering high blood pressure is going to be eliminating the red meat you eat. Most people do not realize how much red meat they eat on a weekly and monthly basis.

You should start off by cutting back slowly on the red meat and eventually have it on a rare occasion. You will also need to limit the fatty foods you consume. Changing your eating habits is going to be among the best ways for you to naturally lower your high blood pressure.

Try to use fresh veggies in your diet more often. When you have the desire for something sweet you should try a piece of fresh fruit instead of getting into the junk food.
